OpenAI has announced the release of GPT-4, the latest milestone in the company's efforts to scale up deep learning.
This large multimodal model can accept both text and image inputs and generate text outputs. While it may be less capable than humans in many real-world scenarios, it exhibits human-level performance on various professional and academic benchmarks.
OpenAI tested GPT-4 on a variety of benchmarks, including simulating exams designed for humans, and found it to be more reliable, creative, and able to handle much more nuanced instructions than its predecessor, GPT-3.5.
However, GPT-4 still has limitations, including hallucinating facts and making reasoning errors, and great care should be taken when using its outputs. GPT-4's text input capability is now available via ChatGPT and the API, with image input capability being prepared for wider availability.
