Palo Alto Networks has released its 2023 State of Cloud-Native Security Report based on a global survey of over 2,500 C-level executives.
The report highlights that cloud usage has increased by over 25% from the previous year, and the main reasons for cloud adoption are now flexibility, improved processes and workflows, risk mitigation, and expansion into new markets, rather than cost. However, the report also reveals security risks, as 90% of organizations cannot detect, contain, and resolve cyber threats within an hour.
Cloud-native technologies have enabled organizations to increase their agility and velocity, with many deploying new or updated code daily or even multiple times per day. Open-source applications and tools are integral to this agility, but they are often targeted in software supply chain attacks. As a result, 81% of respondents embed security professionals into their DevOps teams.
The report highlights significant security challenges, including the fact that 78% of organizations distribute cloud security responsibility among individual teams, and 47% of the workforce does not understand their security responsibilities. To address these challenges, 81% of respondents believe they would benefit from a centralized security solution, while 78% think cloud security needs greater out-of-the-box operation.
