New report from OutSystems reveals the high cost of cloud-native development

OutSystems has released new research on the costs and challenges of building a cloud-native development infrastructure. The Cloud-Native Development Report: The High Cost of Ownership reveals that the total cost of ownership (TCO) for a traditionally developed cloud-native approach averages $5.6 million and can take 18 months.

The TCO is divided into two phases:

  • Infrastructure Environment Costs
  • Application Development Costs.
On average, businesses spend $2.7 million setting up their cloud-native infrastructure and $2.9 million building their first apps on this new infrastructure. High costs stem from hiring and onboarding specialists, as well as integrating numerous services and technologies to assemble the runtime infrastructure.
