RKE2 is a fully conformant, security-focused Kubernetes distribution created by Rancher for organizations that need a dependable, enterprise-grade platform. It bundles key components - containerd, Canal/Calico, CoreDNS, metric-server, and embedded cloud providers - into a single, predictable package. RKE2 simplifies installation with a single binary, minimizes system drift through curated upstream patches, and hardens the stack with FIPS-validated cryptography, SELinux support, and CIS benchmark compliance out of the box.
The control plane is designed for real production pressure: stable upgrades, air-gapped builds, and multi-cluster lifecycle automation through Rancher and Fleet.
