9 new CNCF projects from 2025: OpenTofu, kgateway, Cozystack, and others

New CNCF Sandbox projects in 2025

Following the recent overview of newly added CNCF projects in 2025, the next batch of Open Source tools for Cloud Native needs include:

  1. KitOps for packaging AI/ML models into all-in-one bundles and deploying them.
  2. OpenTofu, a Terraform fork created by the community.
  3. kagent, a framework for building and running AI agents in Kubernetes.
  4. Cadence, a code platform for building distributed software that is durable, highly available, and scalable.
  5. Hyperlight, a lightweight virtual machine manager to spawn micro virtual machines instantly.
  6. interLink, an abstraction layer to offload specific workloads from Kubernetes Pods to other systems, such as Slurm and HTCondor.
  7. urunc, an OCI-compatible runtime for running unikernels.
  8. kgateway, a Kubernetes gateway based on Envoy and Kubernetes Gateway API.
  9. Cozystack for building your own fully-featured cloud platform with managed services on top of Kubernetes and well-known K8s operators.
