The TSDB Status

Using the UI, you can also see the status of the TSDB by going to Status > TSDB Status. This page shows useful data about the database. It's useful for understanding the health of your Prometheus instance.

For example, many of Prometheus' performance issues can be traced back to the head (the in-memory, active part of the TSDB). This page provides insights into the head block of the TSDB, but not only that. Let's see what information is available on this dashboard.

TSDB Head Status

This is an overall summary of the health of the head. It shows the following:

• Number of series: How many unique time series are in the head block.
• Number of chunks: How many chunks these series are split into.
• Number of label pairs: This refers to the total count of unique label combinations present in the head block.
