Code Review: What And What Not To Automate?

Code Review: What And What Not To Automate?

Code review is essential but time-consuming. Automating the least part of the review process can make it more consistent, free up the developer's time, and reduce human errors.

The tool has various benefits such as detecting problems, checking text and code structure, and ensuring necessary assertions. However, it can not verify certain aspects such as test relevance and documentation quality. Therefore, human insight is equally crucial in the review process, especially when dealing with crucial aspects such as system properties, documentation, and naming.

Some existing tools can be useful in automating a few parts of code quality review, but human reviewers' importance remains significant.
