Customers must have control of their data in the cloud – AWS

AWS senior manager Tommie Francis has said for the cloud to realize its full potential, customers must have sovereignty over their data.

Francis told the 2023 ITWeb Security Summit in Johannesburg and Cape Town, that AWS, which was the only major cloud provider to initially allow customers control over the location and movement of data, would continue to architect and build its cloud services to provide features and controls that empower customers to use its services and meet regulatory requirements.

Francis also said AWS users would have control and visibility over their data and emphasized that cloud security required a shared responsibility between provider and customer.
