How AWS powered Prime Day 2024 for record-breaking sales

Amazon Prime Day 2024 (July 17-18) was the biggest yet, with record sales and more items sold globally than any previous event. Amazon deployed over 80,000 Inferentia and Trainium AI chips, and over 250,000 AWS Graviton chips for various services.
Key metrics include:

  • 264 PiB of Amazon EBS storage,
  • 376 billion transactions on Amazon Aurora,
  • 10 of trillions of DynamoDB API calls,
  • A peak of 1 trillion requests per minute on ElastiCache.
