For over twenty years, the Mac was the default at 37signals, but now they are switching to Linux as the default for developers and system operators, while welcoming Windows back for accounting and marketing purposes. This change reflects a desire to align with independence and open source values, while still acknowledging the benefits of Apple hardware. The company will now have people running Mac, Windows, and Linux, contributing to a diverse workplace culture.
