New GitHub Copilot Research Finds 'Downward Pressure on Code Quality'

New research on the effectiveness of GitHub Copilot software development reveals that it can have adverse effects on code quality and maintainability, according to a whitepaper by GitClear. The study found that while developers using GitHub Copilot can complete tasks significantly faster, there is a correlation between its use and increased code churn and copy-paste code, potentially impacting future code maintainability.
