SEC's Gary Gensler takes another swipe at crypto in educational video

Gary Gensler, the Chair of the United States Securities Regulator, has claimed that many crypto platforms are violating securities laws.

  • Gensler described crypto assets as "investment contracts" and called on platforms that offer such products to register with the SEC to protect American investors.
  • He asserted that intermediaries for investment contracts are required to comply with securities laws and register with the SEC, and the law cares about what something actually is, not what it is called.
  • Gensler has continuously claimed that essentially all crypto assets apart from Bitcoin fall under the classification of securities.
