Ubuntu is considering applying low-latency optimizations to its generic kernel builds, potentially eliminating the need for a separate "lowlatency" kernel option. Benchmark tests show that the generic kernel is faster than the low-latency kernel in most cases, with only a small percentage of benchmarks showing a measurable difference.
