Why This Book Exists

As a trainer specializing in cloud-native technologies, I've spent years helping teams and individuals improve their automation processes. Ansible has always been an invaluable resource in my toolkit, lowering the barrier to entry for automation and enabling companies to streamline their workflows and gain overall efficiency. Over the years, I've found great delight in watching others embrace Ansible to automate their infrastructure, deploy applications, and manage multiple environments with confidence.

However, I've observed a growing trend over the last year: companies and engineers have become more and more interested in learning about AWX, the web-based Ansible interface that promises to revolutionize automation. I've noticed curiosity and excitement around this tool and questions about how to use it, set it up, and combine it with existing procedures.

Initially, these requests caught me off guard. My focus has always been on the command-line power of Ansible — I'm less of a UI person, more of a terminal guy, and I didn't see the need for a web interface. But as I dived deeper into AWX, I realized that it wasn't just a pretty face for Ansible. It was a powerful platform that could help users scale their automation efforts, manage their existing playbooks more effectively, and integrate them with other tools and processes. What's more, it offers capabilities you can't find in Ansible alone: scheduling, monitoring, role-based access control, enterprise-grade features, and more.

Recognizing this demand, and after gaining a deeper understanding of AWX through consulting for teams running it in production, I built this workshop around the problems they actually hit. This wasn't just an add-on to my existing Ansible training; it's a deep dive into a tool that extends the capabilities of Ansible in significant ways, an upgrade that could take automation to the next level. This workshop was designed to help participants not just learn AWX but also master it and use it to its full potential. I wanted to equip my trainees with the knowledge and skills they needed to handle complex automation scenarios with ease.
